Oak N4 – Tasting Room and Wine Store

Feb 1, 2017 | Wine

Thanks to the excellent local blog ‘North Four‘ I found out about a new wine shop and tasting room which opened recently in Finsbury Park called Oak N4.

As I was on the look out for a wine gift for a family member recently, it seemed the ideal time to combine shopping with a cheeky glass of wine. As they are a bit of a NZ Sauvignon Blanc lover (who isnt?), we went for one of the well known and trusted brands – a bottle of Greywacke SB 2015. For myself,  I went for a glass of well-balanced South African Chenin Blanc called Warhorse (mainly as I have a mild obsession about Joey the Horse in the movie of the same name).

What is refreshing about this as a shop is the way it is laid out. The shelves are arranged with one side of the shop for red and the other for white, with three shelves for each colour. The lower shelf are the cheaper bottles, and the top shelf for the more expensive. Then the wines go up in body from left to right. A great way to do it, and it’s obvious that the wines are specially selected as there seems to be several different ones of most styles.

You probably won’t find the bargains you might get at Aldi or Lidl at Oak N4, but it certainly won’t be so hit or miss. Finding a bargain is not really what it’s about either. By trying wine by the glass in a well designed environment and explained by a knowledgable proprietor makes this a somewhat different and enjoyable experience to what else is offered in the area if you are into wine.

I am planning to attend a hosted wine flight tasting soon, once I can round up the troops. Hopefully these events will be a regular thing, as this space is ideal for it.

I usually put the wine in the fridge with a simple stopper to help it keep longer, but I got a new gizmo at Christmas – hello Vacu-Vin Wine Saver Concerto.
